The Income Tax Department said in a public message on Sunday that it is mandatory to link your PAN with Aadhaar by the end of this year (December 31, 2019). The Income Tax Department said that to build a better tomorrow! To get uninterrupted benefits of income tax services, complete the important link before December 31, 2019. According to the public message issued 15 days before the deadline expires, it is mandatory to link your PAN with Aadhaar.
The deadline for linking Aadhaar to Permanent Account Number (PAN) was extended till 31 December through an order issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in September this year. Earlier, the deadline for this link was 30 September. The CBDT makes a policy for the Income Tax Department.
The Supreme Court in September last year declared the Centre’s flagship Aadhaar scheme as constitutionally valid and said that biometric ID (IT) would remain mandatory for filing returns and allotment of PAN. Section 139AA (2) of the Income Tax Act states that every person holding PAN as of 1 July 2017 is eligible to receive Aadhaar. They must tell their Aadhaar number to the tax authorities.
The Aadhaar Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is issued to residents of India and the Income Tax Department issues PAN 10 digit alphanumeric number to an individual and firm or institution.
